JULY 31, 2005
Well I just got home. Dianna and I were able to get earlier
flights out of Vegas and get home sooner which is great
because we are exhausted. I think I figured out we have all
had about 14 hours of sleep total since last Wednesday
night but I wouldn't change a minute of anything we did. I
had an absolute ball meeting up in person finally with Toni
and Dave and Jean and her husband Ken. Both men are
adorable Clay Dawgs and despite the shrieking girl behind
them they are going to brave it again for another concert.
Dianna, Toni, Jean and I had an absolute ball. Jean is
correct, I totally lost it during Solitaire. I waited 2 years to
see him sing that song live and if that's all I got to hear that
would have been enough but he did so much more, so very
much more. Thanks Jean and Toni for comforting me with
those pats on the back during Solitaire when I was sobbing.
When he first walked out on the stage they had a jukebox
that was supposedly stuck on a record playing the same
notes over and over and here comes our guy, strutting out
in that black jukebox jacket and just like the old "Fonzy" he
hit his fist on the jukebox and of course that did the trick
and the jukebox started playing properly. He took that walk
onto the stage in true Clay fashion, full of confidence, long
strides with so much confidence knowing he has us
wrapped up before he sings a single note. I was awestruck
because I knew I was looking at a true legend in music. I
truly was watching a superstar. He will be as big as Elvis
and I never thought I would say that but he will be. His
performance, stage presence, dance moves, and the sheer
joy he feels when performing just flows out of him and then
to all that you add a voice that melts our hearts, touches our
souls, makes us (or me at least) cry uncontrollably and there
is no limit to what Clay can do.
He performs 70 songs, some are in medleys but you still get
a sense of each era of music and he does them all so well.
He did an incredible job on Elvis right down to the moves
while at the same time keeping it Clay. Solitaire, Bridge
Over Troubled Water, Unchained Melody (with a killer note
at the end that goes forever) were also incredible. He does
the twist, he does Great Balls Of Fire, and the moves he has
in Rickey Martins La Vita Loca are pure thud material. His
dancing has improved and he can no longer say he can't
dance but we never bought that one in the first place. He
also sings Love Me Tender and accompanies himself on the
piano. Now I know what he has been doing all these months
between Unicef trips...the boys been practicing piano and
dancing. The show goes on for 2 1/2 hours with just a 30
minute intermission and no warm up act so it's all Clay.
We weren't 20 minutes into the show when I was trying to
figure out how I could make it to another concert. My head
is still whirling with memories of the whole trip and the
concert. Oh, his hair is 100% without a doubt PERFECT. Clay
is PERFECT....I know he says he is not but for this
performance he was perfect without question. I truly
believe we came for the voice and stayed for the man and
those words couldn't ring truer for me right now. There is
no little boy Clay from Idol left in him except his love for his
fans. He is all grown up, all man and he is just...well he just
leaves me speechless...he always has.
I loved meeting Sharon and Debbie and Brittany. Well
beautiful, loving Clay fans we have about this train. This is
the first time I have met up with any trainers except a few
from the West Coast so that made this trip even more
special.
If I think of more phenomenal things to say I'll add more later
but right now I need some sleep. I'm glad I was smart
enough to take tomorrow off work too for recovery. For
right now I'll say that Clay Aiken IS the Music and truly is my
measure of a man by which all others will be judged.
